Diligence is the Answer

Today a lonely little Jack Russell Terrier made his way to our home. He was "dog" tired from all his travels. My sweet daughter and her love for animals immediately kicked in to overdrive.

She got him a bowl of water and cared for him just as if he was her own. Kayla and her friend walked the dog all the way up the street and back but was not successful in finding the owner. She brought him back here and I got to work on the phone calling all the vet offices, newspapers, and radio stations. No one had reported a dog missing. While I was calling, she was going through all the obvious dog names she could come up with: Larry, Bob, Spot, Bit, Jack (bark). She said, "mom, I think his name is Jack (bark-bark). She then asked the dog if his name was Jack (bark-bark-bark).

How could a dog show up out of nowhere and not belong to someone?

We finally decided to take it to the local animal shelter. Kayla was sad that we were going to have to drop the dog off, but we knew it was the best thing for the little guy. Before we left, we saw a lost and found board. We walked over to it, and started shuffling through the piles of dogs listed as lost. Several pages down, we came across an older paper, one whose color was fading. However, the description and picture of the dog looked exactly like the dog that we had just brought in. It also said that the dog answers to the name of Jack! We took the paper back to the attendant and left. We felt good knowing that we had done all we could do to reconnect this dog with his rightful owner.

Later that afternoon I got a call from the animal shelter. The paper that Kayla had found hanging on the board was the exact dog we had found. He had been missing for two months! The owners were extactic because someone had stolen their sweet dog from them and now they had it back.

This was a great lesson for her in the fact that diligence does pay off. When we put our heart and soul into something and give it our all, God will see it completed to the end.

Glad we could help out Jack!

Oh how wonderful that the dog found his home. How cool that your daughter guessed his name too.

What a blessing!!

As a dog owner, and owener of a dog that was taken many years ago, I am thankful to know that there are those out there who will go to such means to find the owners of a lost pet.

To have given Jack a good home would have been a blessing for Jack and the new family (yourself or whom the center found for adoption), but working so hard to return him to his home is awesome!

Thank you and your kids for your love and obedience, may you all be blessed!
