We've Just Returned from Mexico!

Okay...not really! We have just finished our study on Mexico. Since we have been using My Father's World this year for homeschool, the kids are really learning alot about different countries and cultures.

During our study on Mexico, we made string art which we found out is a very BIG thing in Mexico. They do many different art projects this way. The kids had a great time creating their own masterpieces.

Another art project that we made which I do not have a picture of is sand art. The Mexican people use colored sand to make beautiful pictures. We did this, but I forgot to take pictures (gasp!) I know...I always take pictures of everything! LOL

We also made tissue paper flowers.

He always love to be such a goof for the camera!

The Mexican people use these to decorate for fiestas. Since we made the flowers, we decided that at the end of our study we would put our own fiesta on. Kayla of course is my decorator, so she took care of getting our schoolroom transformed in to our Fiesta party.

Once the decorations were hung, Kayla and I got to work preparing our Mexican feast! We made homemade tortilla chips which are sooo easy to make--use corn tortillas, cut them into triangles and then fry them--YUM!

We also made homemade salsa and guacamole. We had Chicken Tacos instead of beef and it turned out to be a really yummy meal!

Like I said...they love to make faces for the camera!

We had a great time studying Mexico! Next week, we are hopping a plane and heading to Canada! I can't wait to see what's in store when we land there!

That looks like a super fun "vacation". The best learning always involves art, and cooking.

It looks like you all had a great time!! I'm glad that you posted the pics. Since you and I talked more about MFW I am even more jacked to get my ducks in a row to purchase. :)

God Bless,
Kela

Dirty rotten trick! I was looking forward to reading about a Mexican vacation! :) But you covered a lot without being there. The tissue paper flowers are gorgeous!

What a fun week! My kiddos like to make faces for the camera too. :) I have tons of yarn; we'll have to do the string art sometime. Thanks for sharing.

Can I just say what an awesome mom you are? I am not that into crafts so I really admire you moms who do all these awesome activities. I have to force myself to do one a week because my daughter enjoys them. I might have to copy some of your ideas. That string art looks nice and simple. (One of my craft requirements. LOL)
