Gardening Update

It started out as a school project back in early March. We were learning about seedlings. We purchased $1.00 worth of different seed packs from Wal-Mart and started to plant them in little cups. In a few days we got to see them sprout and begin to grow.

When it was time to plant them, we learned what it meant to till the ground. This was excruciatingly hard work, but we got in there and got it done!

Before long, it was time to plant our plants outside. We were excited and couldn't wait to see what would happen! We estimated how long it would take them to begin growing, to begin flowering, and to begin to reproduce and make vegetables!

For about a month or so, our plants began to really start putting out those green lovely tomatoes!

My pepper plants and marigolds finally began producing and we waited as each plant's bounty got big enough that we could pluck them off and use them.

My roma tomatoes are really creating a huge bounty! This is the sixth bowl I have gotten so far in the last two weeks.

As you can see my peppers are coming in nicely as well. And my favorite tomato of all time, my Better Boys are coming in as well. This is the fourth crop of these that I have gotten!

All in all, I would say that my children got an "A" on growing a plant from seedling to produce wouldn't you? The neatest thing about this is that my garden bounty only cost me $1.00 and a little hard work! How awesome is that??

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Do you remember these little fellows??

Well take a look at them now!

I have 53 more just like this one! And they are even taller than this picture (it was taken a couple of weeks ago). I am so excited because blooms are busting out all over the place and I know it won't be long until I will have yummy tomatoes everywhere!
How is your garden doing?

Heart Of The Matter: Garden Update

My garden has been growing like a weed....literally. I am kinda frustrated with the little varmints that won't leave things alone! So far here is what has been going on:

  • The kids and I planted all our favorite veggies!: corn green beans, onions, peppers, tomatoes, watermelon, canteloupe, and pumpkin.
  • It rained really hard the day we planted, and the water pooled in one corner of the garden.
  • Went out a few days later to check on the growth and was totally excited because the corn had sprouted! Nothing else had come up yet
  • Went out a few days later and noticed some of my corn tops had been chewed off by the rabbits (grrrrrr)
  • Also noticed I had tomato plants that had made their way to the green bean rows. Must have been washed there by the rain. (double grrrr)
  • Evidently the sand that is in the back half of my garden where we used to have the pool is not a very good place to try and grow pumpkins
  • I realize that growing a garden is ALOT harder than it looks
So there you have the update on my garden. I will continue to give updates on how it's doing. As for right now, I have to get off here and go get some kind of fencing to put around it if I want my things to survive the rabbits!

Breaking Ground

I am so excited! Last week, we FINALLY got the ground broke up for the garden. I am so new at all this stuff and I want it to turn out great.

Since this is the first year that we tilled the ground for the garden, I don't expect it to do very well. I am hoping that we get the fencing up before the rabbits move in and eat all my new little plants!

I love this photo of Robert working hard at getting the ground just right!

Kayla and Tucker both was enjoying watching Bubba till as well, but from a distance!

Do you have any good advice for a newbie gardener? I am always interested in tips and anything that will help me grow better vegetables!

Look! We Have Babies!!

Our babies are coming up! We now have tomatoes! Both cherry and Beefsteak. My mouth is already watering with anticipation!!

Kayla is trying her hand at growing some flowers. Guess what she is growing? Sunflowers! Look how big they are already!

We Have a Nursery!

Kayla and I are determined to raise our own garden this year! I am so excited because look! We have a nursery!

The day we planted them, we both had so much fun, taking care of our seeds, making sure that they were planted and nestled in the soil safely.

Isn't she just adorable with her seeds!
