A Family With a Vision

If you would have asked me ten years ago what the vision was for my family, this is the answer you would have gotten:

"To do well in school making straight A's, being successful and on top at
work, saving money and getting things we want, living in a fairly large house,
with extra income to boot."

Isn't that what every family in America dreams about? It's so amazing how God changes our focus when we become His children. Since that time, our vision for our family has changed drastically. No longer are we worried about how much money we are making. No longer are we concerned with our children making the grade. No more are we trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Our new focus, and the focus that has become the most important for our family is that of serving God. We have realized that it is SO important that our vision for ourselves and our family is to serve God with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our souls, and with all our strengths. We want our children to learn that we serve God first. . . we seek His kingdom first and all His righteousness and all the other things will be added after we have done this.

Many people look at our family and think that our vision is a sheltering vision for our children. However, our children are learning to reach out to others in need before thinking of their own welfare. Their first concern has become to share with others the wonderful things God is doing in our lives and how He is molding us and making us into His image.
Today our priorities look like this: Serve God, Serve others, Serve yourself. In doing so, our life has become less complicated, less stressful, and more fulfilling in every single way.

Great message today. We have to keep God first which is exactly what I was posting today! How awesome is that. Confirmation from the Lord.

I love hearing about how God changes us and we truly become new creations in Him. Love your list of priorities - serving God, others then ourselves. Thanks for sharing today.

I love the way you sum up your priorities for your family at the end of your post. It is quite simple.

AWESOME!! I want to encourage you to make a family mission statement!
Ours is framed on our mantle and reads "We the Lawson family will be a family whose foundation is the LORD, with God's help, we will model compassion and gentleness toward the poor and lost, and teach our children to own their faith with confidence and obey the urgings of the Holy Spirit."
It's a daily (hourly!) reminder of our responsibility and privlidge to grow our children in Christ and reach the Lost!
