A Titus 2 In The Making

Today we are talking about what a Titus 2 woman looks like. You have women who work outside of the home because they don't want to be at home, you have women who work outside of the home because they have to, you have women like me who work from home who are also homemakers, you have women who are at home because their husbands make them, and then you have women who are home because they feel the call of God on their life to BE that woman.

Whichever woman you are from the above, let me just say this upfront. . .WE ARE ALL CALLED TO BE A TITUS 2 WOMAN! Yes, you heard me right. God did not call "special" women to be Titus 2 women. He called us all.

So what exactly does a Titus 2 woman look like? Well let's take a look and see.

Titus 2:1-5

But you, explain what kind of behavior goes along with sound teaching. Tell the older men to be serious, sensible, self-controlled and sound in their trust, love and perseverance. Likewise, tell the older women to behave the way people leading a holy life should. They shouldn’t be slanderers or slaves to excessive drinking. They should teach what is good, thus training the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to take good care of their homes and submit to their husbands. In this way, God’s message will not be brought into disgrace.

First and foremost, I want you to see that as a Titus 2 woman, the first thing that we are told is to behave the way people leading a holy life should! What does that mean? It means that as Christian women following the Lord, we should behave like such. We are to be meek and gentle and have a peaceful spirit. That doesn't mean we don't have our say, but coming from someone like myself who talks way more than I should(especially when I am nervous), it is important that when people see you, they see the Lord in your actions. If you go around constantly making people mad, or fussing and ranting and raving. . .that is NOT behaving as holy people should. In this instance it would be a good thing to think of Galatians 5: 22-23; The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against these things, there is no law. If you are behaving as a holy person should, you will have these qualities showing in your life and others will be able to see them.

The next thing we are told in the Word of God about a Titus 2 woman is this: We should not be slanderers or slaves to excessive drinking. Exactly what is a slanderer? A slanderer is someone who issues a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report. I use to be that woman so I know how easy it is to get into the habit of telling lies or false statements. The way I look at it now is that if ANY part of it is untrue, then the whole statement is a lie. We are not to be this way. The drinking issue is also one that I have been healed from. The day I gave my life to Christ, He healed my drinking habit and gave me new wine to drink...from Him only. I am not saying that drinking will send you to Hell, because it will not, however, I do believe that drinking ruins your witness for the Lord.

In the next statement, we are told several things, but I am going to break them down and approach each one. The first section says: They should teach what is good, thus training the younger women to love their husbands and children. How do we teach what is good? We teach the Word of God...to other women so that they in turn can turn around and use it in their lives. How will they use it? By loving their husbands and children. What saddens me more than anything is when a woman is selfish in any nature and decides to let her husband and children fend for themselves in any way. This is not being good, and this is not being a Titus 2 woman. Now I can already hear some of you saying, " I just don't have the time. I work all day and by the time I get home, I just don't have the energy anymore." Can I say that I know exactly where you are coming from? I was the woman saying that just a few years ago myself. God got ahold of me one day and told me that MY family comes before my job. If I am giving more of my time and energy to my co-workers and my workplace, then my priorities are all completely out of whack! Regardless of whether you work out of the home, from home, or a homemaker, your number one ministry is your husband and children.

We are also told that we are to be self controlled and pure. To be self controlled means that God is in control of the things that you do. I can remember so many times saying that I just didn't have any control. If you have the Spirit of the living God living in your heart--then YES my sister YOU have self-control. Whether you choose to allow God to work in that area or not is up to you, but everyone has self control. Being pure means that we live a holy and blameless life before the Lord. Notice that it does not say perfect, but pure. Those are two different things. We are not called to be perfect, but in our purity, we STRIVE to be perfect like Jesus. We live as He wants us to live, not allowing things to knock us off of our path. If they do however, we ask God's forgiveness and then repent and MOVE on...don't dwell on the mistakes.

The last two things are this: to take good care of our homes and to submit to our husbands. Two very important things. Taking good care of our homes I have already hit on a little. Our homes should be a haven of rest for our husband and our children. It should not be a place of chaos or animosity but of love and comfort. And then lastly, submitting to our husbands. Sit down and talk with your husband and ask him what he wants from you as a wife. Find out his likes, irritations, dislikes, and things he needs from you, and then be that wife for him. He deserves it. He is the man that God has chosen for you for all of your life. Make him feel like the king he is.

So now you have my take on the Titus 2 woman. I am making sure that when Kayla is my age, she has all the necessary tools to be able to be this woman not only for her family, but for the Lord as well. If you are struggling in this area, find a woman who is portraying a Titus 2 behavior and ask her to be your mentor and help you to be this lady for your family.

Remember that whether you work outside the home or not, WE are all called to be this woman.
