To Brazil and Back
The kids and I are finishing up South America today and our study of the rain forest and Brazil. We have had so much fun with this study!
First, we learned about Nate Saint, MAF, and the Auca Indians which was by far my favorite part.
We learned about the elaborate parties that they have in Brazil and the lovely costumes that they wear, so we made our own Brazilian costume from old pillowcases.
Robert made his into a vest and decorated it with shiny guitars.
We also made an anaconda out of an old sheet which I think became the kids favorite thing we did.
We switched a few things around this past couple of weeks that were just not working for us. For some reason, we are having a hard time getting into Apologia General Science. Has anyone else had this problem? I think that we are going to just put it aside for right now until we can find a way to fit it in.
We are ending our week by watching The End of The Spear and Beyond the Gates of Splendor—two movies about Nate Saint and the Auca Indians.
Next week, we are flying to Norway to begin our study on Europe! I am really excited. See ya there!

End of the Spear is a tear jerker, but I loved it. It was awesome! Great job!
Great week! I haven't heard of half the things/civilizations you learned about.
I teach General Science at our co-op. You can get bogged down in all the scientists, ugh. I just stick to the ones that come up over and over in the text, Aristotle, Pasteur, Lavossier (sp?).

What a great week! Nate Saint is certainly an inspiration. We once got to hear his son, Steve, and Mincaye speak at church. Words can't even describe.
