Blogger Friend School # 127: One Truth: God

This week we have a guest assignment from Libby at http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/missionarymama

If anyone else is interested in doing an assignment please email Nancy at nking@hughes.net or Sombra at sombra.wilson@yourlink.ca. We’d be happy to have your assignment ideas to post. Also be sure to come back during the week for a Special Announcement from the BFS staff!

Memory verse:
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” – John 8:32

Introduction:
This is a spin-off of last week as we went searching for what “Hear” means. This is a hunt for the Truth about who we are as believers, how God views us and how we can rest in that Truth.

As before, use any Bible or Bible study tools to help you in your search. Sometimes it can be intimidating to do these kinds of studies. I was a little nervous about the last two assignments. But these assignments can be a way to learn how to do this kind of Bible study. Don’t feel you have to know it all in order to do this. We aren’t Bible professors here, but we are all in need of learning and understanding God’s message to us. God, our Abba, our Daddy, wrote this Book, the Bible, to us! Let’s see what He wants to share with us about all the wealth that is ours as His children.

Assignment: Dig around in the Word and share what you find about any or all of the following:
Who is Jesus Christ? (Yes, the obvious, but dig around, what are some of His names?) What God has given us in Christ, what benefits are ours right now? Because of Christ’s work on the cross on our behalf, what can we count on from Him in our daily lives?

If you need some ideas of where to get started check out these chapters in the New Testament and see where they take you:
John 15, Romans chapters 6, 7 and 8, Galatians chapters 2 and 5, Ephesians, Colossians, 1 Corinthians and 1 Peter are also great. I can’t wait to see what everyone finds!
Happy Digging.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow..3 weeks in a row that I get to really dig into the meat of God's word, which is something that I love to do. I love to tear apart a scripture and offer up what each word means. THAT is how I really get to know who God is and what He is trying to say to me!
Question number 1: Who Is Jesus Christ
I love this question! My favorite answer for this is John 14:6: Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father but by Me."
Jesus is our way, our truth and our life. He is my way because He shows me how to live day to day. He is my way because he has prepared a path for me that will lead me straight into the Father's arms one day.
He is my truth, because He has revealed to me the truth about myself, and the truth about who He is. He has shared His truths with me in His word.
He is my Life. Everything about my day, my nights, my coming and my goings, He is that. My life does not exist without Him. He is my everything. Some of my favorite names that God is known by are: El Shaddai, Abba, Yahweh, Almighty, Redeemer, Comforter, and Deliverer. I could go on and on with names that are throughout God's Word..His names.
Question Number 2: What God has given us in Christ, what benefits are ours right now?
Romans 8:17 sums up this question so well: "And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering."
When we accept Christ as our Savior, we are accepted into the fold. We are now part of the family and we are allowed our portion of the reward. However, just like a family, when you rejoice in the rewards, you also are part of the suffering that is involved. We rejoice with others when they receive a blessing, and we are saddened when crisis strikes, but that is all part of being a family.
Question Number 3: Because of Christ’s work on the cross on our behalf, what can we count on from Him in our daily lives?
There are many verses in the Bible that tell us what we can count on from Jesus in our daily lives, what He gives us. Here are just a few of those:
  • Jesus gives us life: For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. (John 5:21)
  • He gives us endurance and encouragement: May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus (Romans 15:5)
  • He gives us victory: But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1st Corinthians 15:57)
  • He gives us strength: I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Phillipians 4:13)
  • He gives us wisdom: If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. (James 1:5)
  • He gives us freedom: But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:25)
This week has been a reminder for myself to who God is in my life and all the things that He daily gives me. When I tend to whine and complain because things are not going my way, I know that He will supply my every need.
I'm reading the other assignments and wondering if I did mine right..even though you appreciated it.. I guess I have trouble following instructions. lol
I've just finished a yoga/pilates workout with my hubby.. I'm still breathing a little heavy.. and I feel the rush of endorphins..
I looked at your favourite breakfast. I'm in the market for breakfast foods. My hubby has to go on an elimination diet, so breakfast has become more difficult - heck, all meals have become more difficult. - no tomatoes, no dairy, no red meat and no peanuts. We got to keep the wheat.... I'm going to try your breakfast pizza with chicken, but.. without cheese. I need mushrooms I think.
